The Ghana Boundary Commission has sensitised residents of Dollar Power on Transnational Organized Crime.
Speaking at the the durber grounds Sindiwura said that Dollar Power is situated along the international boundary between Ghana and Vote d’Ioire and he would like to size the opportunity to to thank the government for all the efforts it’s putting in place to link them to the rest of the world like the ongoing roads construction and also constantly engaging them as a resilient Community.
Sindiwura also noted that Dollar Power, like many other Communities along the border faces numerous challenges that hinder their development and exacerbate poverty.
So the challenges we face in the community are lack of roads,schools, health facilities, electricity, water, sanitation, unemployment and security threats.
The chief also mentioned that to address the challenges he urge the government to invest in infrastructures, Promote economic empowerment, enhance security and also regularise gold mining.
Speaking at the Sensitization program the Madam Sarah Ekuban, Director police plans and programs stated that the Ghana Boundary Commission holds a vital responsibility in defending Ghana’s international land and maritime boundaries and so their mandate is to fostering peaceful, prosperous and stable border communities that facilitate trade and cooperation for the benefit of all Ghanians.
Madam Sarah added that border areas like Dollar Power where the allure of natural resources such as gold have attracted people from far and wide and so the boarders are also points of vulnerability that criminal networks exploit local people populations for their own gain.
The program Director noted that the event is part of a broader initiative under the ECOWAS project aimed at mitigating the destabilizing effects of Transnational Organized Crime which is implemented by the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) in collaboration with the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime and the Ghana Boundary Commission.
“So this project seeks to strengthen law enforcement efforts while involving you as active partners in this fight, and so our goal is to enhance your understanding of these issues and to engage in meaningful discussion and most importantly work collectively with you to strengthen your Community resilience she said”.
The Director added that a resilient Community is one that stands united , stay informed and is prepared to confront challenges collaboratively and so in Dollar Power, fostering cooperation and trust among residents will create a robust network capable of countering organized crime threats.
Hon Saeed Muhazu Jibril delivering a speech at the program mentioned that Transnational Organized Crime has become a Global threat with lots of implications on national and human security and hence the need to fashioned out pragmatic strategies such as creating awareness amongst our populations and communities to understand and appreciate the dangers associated with Transnational Organized Crime.
Hon Jegede noted that Dollar Power is a border community that quite often experience influx of people from neighboring countries like Cote d’ voire due to the mineral deposit in the area.
So it is in the light of these reasons that the Ghana Boundary Commission in partnership with German Federation Foreign Office through GIZ are collaborating to create awareness in Dollar Power for the people to understand and appreciate the nature and forms of Transnational Organized Crime as well as build the resilience of the Community to withstand and fight Transnational Organized Crime.
“I am confidently and certain if we consciously and constantly share information we will collectively be able to address Transnational Organized Crime as nation and thus contribute our quota to the global fight against.
