Communities urged to keep surveillance over strangers.

The Bole Sector Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service has appealed to community members to keep surveillance and endeavour to report abnormal behaviours of strangers who come into their communities.

The Commander noted that the recent terrorists’ activities in the West Africa sub-region had put pressure on the Immigration Service and urged the community members to support them to ward off terrorist threats and secure peace for the country.

The Bole Sector Commander, Chief Supt. Johnson Appiah Benefo, who made the appeal at Doli, a community in the Bole District said citizens had always conceived that matters of security were in the domain of the security officers alone.

He explained that in modern security, citizens must not act as onlookers but be seen effectively participating and complementing the efforts of the security officers through surveillance, and volunteering information promptly and at the appropriate time.

“We need the cooperation of all citizens in the country and the people in Doli could not be left out in that regard. If you see something abnormal, say something about it”, he said.

The Commander, therefore, charged people in the community to take individual security matters seriously and also, “avoid keeping strangers in their houses without investigating to find out who they are and their motives in the community.”

He urged the public to cooperate and volunteer trustworthy information to the security agencies to help fight crime.

“Security is a shared responsibility and as such it must be the priority of every citizen to relay credible information to the security officers to abate crime”, he said.

He pleaded with citizens not to hesitate to contact the nearest security post to report any criminal activities in their vicinities, adding, “they can equally inform other other security bodies to act upon such information”.

The Assemblyman for the Doli Electoral Area, Hon. Susurokara John, who organised the engagement also called for unity among all community members to propel the growth of the electoral area.

He commended the Immigration Commander and his officers for the engagement and assured them of their collaboration.
