The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Hon. Yusif Sulemana has filed a question in Parliament to the Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development Minister requesting that the status of the Bole District be upgraded to that of a Municipal level.

The MP referred to ACT 2012 section 1(4) (A) (II) which stipulated that a municipality is created when the population of a community is Ninety-five Thousand (95,000).

He posited that as per the 2021 population census, the Bole District is about one hundred and fifteen thousand, eight hundred (115,800).

To this, he opined to the sector minister, Hon. Dan Botwe, that the District has overly exceeded the population threshold required for the creation of a municipality.

According to him, as the Member of Parliament for the constituency it is important that he seeks from the minister to make an urgent appeal for the Bole District to be made a municipality.

This, he noted is a genuine call since the District possesses every quality to be upgraded to the status befitting it and as stated in the local government ACT.

Hon.Yusif stressed that, the creation of the municipality will ensure fairness and equitable distribution of wealth and resources to the residents.

He added the creation will also enhance the capacities of the local government authorities to plan, initiate, coordinate, manage, and execute policies in respect of all matters affecting the people within the area as enshrined in the country’s constitution 240(2).

Mr.Speaker “I rise to ask the the minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development when the Bole District will be elevated to a municipal status”, the MP quizzed.

The minister in response directed that, the Member of Parliament writes to the office of the president or the ministry of Local Government to engage in further deliberations.

Hon. Yusif, added that, the District has vast fertile land which supports the growth of Shea trees and cashew, large market centres among others and that elevating the District to a municipal status will be welcomed by the Bolewura and his sub- chiefs.

Meanwhile, the the Assemblyman for Mempeasem Electoral Area, Mr Mohammed Shiraz-Deen had earlier reiterated the desire of the people to see the upgrade of the Bole District.

According to him, the community deserved to have adequate resources to undertake infrastructural development.

The upgrade, he mentioned is therefore needful to ensure the Assembly get enough resources to undertake the work needed in the area especially the lack of adequate police posts, basic amenities and educational infrastructure.
