The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom has pledged his support for the Government of President John Dramani Mahama towards a successful nation building.

The Overlord of Dagbon made the commitment on Saturday when the President Mahama called on him at his palace in Damongo as part of his Thank You Tour to the region.

The Yagbon wura in a speech read on his behalf by Yapeiwura Dr. ABT Zackaria said: “ We pledged our unwavering support as you lead the effort to reset Ghana and secure a more inclusive and prosperous future for all .”

In a welcome address the OverLord of Gonjaland, Jira Bii- Kunuto Jewu Soale l, urged the President to work on the Sawla–Damongo- Fufuluso Road, Bole–Bamboi–Wa Road, Daboya–Damongo Road and the Chama–Tuluwe Road among other important roads in the region.

He added that another pressing concern is the ongoing water crisis affecting Damongo and nearby communities and the lack of access to potable water poses a serious threat to public health.

“It is our fervent hope that this issue will be addressed comprehensively during your tenure, leaving behind a legacy of transformative impact”, he stated.

Yagbonwura also mentioned that the “Nyange” community which remains the ancestral seat of the Gonja Kingdom though central to the traditional leadership, Nyange remains underdeveloped.

“It is the passage point for all Yagbonwura’s, yet its infrastructure, including the historic palace, is in a state of disrepair and we believe that developing “Nyange” would serve as a fitting legacy, affirming the deep roots of our heritage and commitment to cultural preservation and we believe and know you can do it” he said.

The Chief noted that substance abuse and indiscipline among the youth have become rampant in recent times in the country and the Savannah Region is not an exception and this incidence is largely driven by unemployment and lack of opportunities.

“So we respectfully call on your government to prioritize job creation under your “Big Push” initiative to address this social menace and restore hope among the youth.
