The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Yapei- Kusawgu constituency in the Savannah Region has challenged the NPP in the constituency that Fulanis who are born in the constituency must be allowed to partake in the ongoing voter’s registration exercise.
This came up after executives of the NDC in the constituency alleged that members of the NPP led by one Musah Mankpang is preventing Fulanis in the Butei electoral area from participating in the ongoing voter’s registration exercise by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
In a released by the NDC, they argued that Fulanis are not aliens and hence must be allowed to register for the voter’s ID card.
The NDC in the released referred to as unfair treatment meted out to the Fulanis in the area and said Fulanis must be treated with dignity because they are humans.
“The CI makes it abundantly clear that the only way to challenge the eligibility of a person is to fill a challenge and not resort to violence” they stated in the release.
Below is the full release by the Yapei- Kusawgu NDC executives.
For Immediate Release
8th-July-2020
National Democratic Congress
Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency
Savannah Region.
FULANIS ARE NOT ALIENS AND MUST BE ALLOWED TO BE REGISTERED
The attention of the Yapei-Kusawgu NDC executives has been drown to an ugly scene in the Butei Electoral area where memebers of the New Patroitic Party led by one Musah Mankpang (under the influence Mr Abu Kamara) has mounted an illegal challenge to forcibly prevent residents of Fulani extraction from registering in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
We roundly condemn this ethnocentric and tribalistic discrimination coming from the camp of the NPP in the Constituency.
For the avoidance of doubt the current CI makes it abundantly clear that the only way to challenge the eligibility of a prospective person is to fill a challenge form and not resort to violence.
We wish to reemphasize our stand that Fulanis living in Ghana are human beings who deserve to be treated with dignity.
They have every right like any other Ghanaian and any attempt to disenfranchise them will be resisted by the NDC.
The NDC therefore wish to call on the electoral commission and the security agencies to take appropriate action to forestall any ugly incident arriving from this unlawful attitude of Mr. Musah Mankpang in particular.
We stand with all Fulanis in these trying times and remain resolute in our quest to ensure equity and justice.
Thank you.
Signed
Latif lddi Atingpo l
Constituency secretary
