MP for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Questions Energy Minister over abandoned Electricity projects.

The Member of Parliament for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba in the Savannah Region, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey has dragged the Minister for Energy to parliament over abandoned rural electricity projects in the Constituency.

According to him, works in some seven farming communities electricity project under the Self Help Electricity’ Projects(SHEP) have stalled thereby denying the residents the opportunity to enjoy lights.

He wanted to know from the Minister when the electrification project in the communities would be completed.

“Mr Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Energy what is the status of the rural electrification projects in the following communities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency (i) Gbeniyiri(ii) Soguooyiri
(iii) Nakpala(iv) Konkrompe (v)Jang (vi) Kporiju.

In response, a Deputy Minister William Owuraku Aidoo said the Gbeniyiri, Soguooyiri, Nakpala,Konkrompe ,Jang and Kporiju communities are not part of the Ministry of Energy’s ongoing SHEP-5
Rural Electrification Project in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the
Savannah Region.

According to the Deputy Minister, engineering survey is however carried out at Gbeniyiri, Soguooyiri, Nakpala and Kporiju communities and would be considered in the subsequent phase of the project.

The MP in a follow up question said he was surprised at the Minister’s response because cables and poles were deployed to some of the communities.

He was particularly about Kporiju community which said has been completed wired awaiting a transformer for the community to be connected to the national grid.

The Minister later said, he and his team will do the necessary findings and report accordingly to the MP about the project.
