NGO organises a day workshop for Journalists in the Savannah Region on environmental protection.

World Vision, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has on Thursday 15th September 2022, Organised a day workshop for Journalists at West Gonja Municipal of the Savannah Region with the aim of safeguarding our environment.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Joseph Edwin Yelkabon who is the project officer for the EU LEAN Project which is being implemented by World Vision said the workshop is to have encounter with the media partners within the Savannah Region on the need to protect the landscape of the area.

Mr. Joseph Edwin mentioned that the project is being funded by European Union (EU)and it’s being implemented in the Savannah landscape by World Vision specifically in the Kassena Nakana West and West Gonja Municipal.

“Some of the key areas intervened are basically in land restoration and the protection of our biodiversity within the landscape”, he stated.

He info the NGO is also working closely on governance structure that would let people to be able to speak out on issues that affect the environment.

The Project officer added that, the NGO have some support for individuals who are into tree planting and within the Damongo area (4) nursery that would be producing seedlings of assorted trees species that is Cashew and Shea seedlings, and we are currently working with Cocoa Research institute of Ghana in Bole District sub station to have their scientist trained the nursery volunteers to raise at least a minimum of about thirty thousand(3000) Shea seedlings that they can distribute to individuals who are interested in planting them on their fields.

“We are also looking at possibility as a project to raise Rosewood seedlings to communities who are interested to plant them in the park”, he stated.

A total of 79 participants (86 males, 3 females) from 50 Communities affirmed their consent to the project.
