Savannah Region: President Akufo-Addo commissions waste recycling compost plant.

The President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned an Integrated Composing and Recycling Plant at Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region.

In a welcome address by the Yagbonwura Prof. Tuntumba Boresa (I) said on his behalf by Buipewura Jinapor said it’s an extra ordinary today in the history of the Savannah Region to welcome His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo on an exceptional eighth (8) visit to the Savannah Region.

He lauded the President for the accompanying infrastructure that commensurate the infant Region for effective and smooth administration, these include the SRCC, the Regional Education facility, the Regional Health Insurance Office, the High Court and also the Integrated Recycling Compost Plant.

” Though tremendous development has has been achieved in the interest of the Savannah Region, the region still faces some challenges that are critical to development”, Buipewura noted.

One of the cardinal Pillars of development is road network, in ourselves is a proposal on the construction of the Damongo-Kotito-Buipe road which serves as the business and market hub of the Savannah Region and beyond.

President Akufo-Addo in his speech at the durbar grounds said that one of the major problem our country has been facing for years is the issue of waste collection and waste management, it is a problem but fortunately for me in my time I met a man who was prepared to partner with the Government to deal with waste disposal in our country thus; Jospong Group of Company Mr. Siaw Agyapong.

“Today am in Damongo to commission one of such facilities which sod was cut in October 2020 “, the President noted.

President Akufo-Addo also mentioned that any serious business man that has a program in the sector and seeking the partnership and the assistance of the Government is welcome on push to push the developmental agenda of the country.

Speaking at the durbar grounds, the CEO of Jospong Group of Companies said a total of 30 million population waste generated daily is equivalent 21428 metric tons, according to the World Bank and Environment Alliances also about p 3,000 plastic waste tons is generated on daily basis.

The Damongo composite and recycling plant is going to play a major role in our waste management effort especially the Savannah Region serving as a hub for waste haulage from the following areas Buipe, Daboya, Bole, Damongo, Sawla.

The Damongo ARECOP can process 400  tons of municipal solid waste daily and the plant can produce 200 tons of compost being 4,000 bags of compost 50 kgs daily.

The facility will create two hundred direct jobs jobs and other three hundred indirect jobs for those who will be haulaging the various waste from other Districts to the Plant site.
