The Savannah Regional Lands Commission office has been inaugurated, with a call for effective land administration for sustainable development.

The regional office was inaugurated at Damongo, the Savannah Regional capital, in accordance with Article 260(1) of the 1992 Constitution which provides that “the Lands Commission shall have a branch in each region to be known as Regional Lands Commission for the performance of the functions specified in article 258 of this constitution”.

The Savannah Regional Chairman of the Commission, Dr Adams Sulemana Achanso in a welcome address during the inauguration said efficient delivery of land services was critical to the growth of the country.

He stressed that it was important for land administration services such as survey and mapping, valuation of property, state land acquisition, land management and registration to be done properly to propel socio-economic development.

The Chairman of the Regional Lands Commission said the inauguration of the regional office was important because it would bring land administration close to people at the local level and drive inclusive development.

“Since the inauguration of the Commission on July 26, 2021, the Savannah Regional Lands Commission has been in operation informally, so today’s inauguration is going to formalise its operations. There is no need to travel out of the region to transact land related business”, he noted.

The services being rendered by office will include surveying, valuation, land registration among others.

“Chairman, please let me caution that whoever is interested in these services should endeavour to come to the office by himself or herself and avoid passing their documents through third parties. Submitting documents to the office by oneself saves time, money and stress”, Dr Adams stated.

He added that the inauguration of the office was yet another benefit from the creation of the Savannah Region led by the president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Akufo Addo.
