Journalists in Savannah Region have been urged to use culturally appropriate means of communication as a way of promoting peace building in the Region and Ghana at large.

This was said during a Conflict Sensitive Reporting training workshop held on 22nd July 2022 at Damongo.

The workshop was organised by the Savannah Regional Peace Council in collaboration with some NGOs .

The training funded by USAID, WANEP and CARE seek to build the capacity of journalist on conflict sensitivity and reporting.

Speaking on conflict sensitivity, the Regional Executive Secretary Mr Clifford Tampuori, said conflict resolution is between those parties in conflict.

He however said resolving conflict issue has to do with serious  bargaining power which are very fragile to deal with.

He said peace council can get involve in a peace process without the invitation of the parties and urged the media to help solve these challenges.

He mentioned Mpaha, Bunsunu and Daboya among others as conflict areas they are seriously mediating .

The Regional Chairman for Savannah Regional Peace Council, Rev Fr Lazarus Annyere , speaking on media conflict reporting said the media can escalate or deescalate any conflict in an area.

He said when it breaks which side do you belong?, what do you report on?, are you able to identify the sensitive part of the issue? He asked.

He said the media could make things easier in dealing with conflict resolutions.

The assistant program manager for Savannah Regional Peace Council, Mr Naa Isaac B said this the workshop will go a long way to equip media persons to manage conflict reporting.

He said at times the whole matter is not up to a particular level but the way it will be reported will escalate it.

So he urged the media to manage conflict issue with care to maintain the peace we are currently enjoying.
