Stakeholders in Bole District urged to support fight against malaria.

Malaria continues to top the cases at the various Out Patients Departments (OPD) in the Bole District.

Malaria admissions increased from 38,671 to 45,621 persons between 2019 and 2021 in the District.

This has raised concerns about the need for more action to be taken to beat down the figures.

The District Health Director, Hajia Fuseina Sulemana, has on the back of this called for concerted efforts in the fight against malaria.

She said the citizens must actively get involved and assist the health authorities deal with the situation.

She stressed the need for attitudinal change among Ghanaians especially caregivers if the fight against Malaria is to be won.

This was made this known during a stakeholder engagement meeting on the 2022 seasonal malaria chemo prevention implementation held at the at premises of the District Health Directorate on July 6, 2022.

The exercise is an annual activity which target children between 3-59 months where the drug is administered in four rounds with the first round set to begin from Monday July 11 to Sunday July 17, 2022.

Hajia Fuseina noted that most children in Ghana get infected with malaria and therefore urged parents and stakeholders to help reduce malaria attacks among children.

She urged various caregivers to ensure the malaria chemo prevention drug given to them by volunteers is administered to their children as prescribed.

He noted that, about 77 per cent of all malaria related diseases occurred in children under five years because their immunity was weak compared to adults.

“It is for these reasons we are targeting mothers to educate them on prevention of malaria rather than treating it after being infected,” Hajia Fuseina stated.

The District Director called for the support of all to fight against malaria and advised caregivers to report to the nearest health facilities with their children when they feel unwell after taken the medication.

She however warned that a child who is unwell is not allowed to take the drug.

Hajia Fuseina appealed to the public to cooperate with health officials to make the policy implementation easier.
