The Savannah Region House of Chiefs has held a two day consultative forum with various stakeholders in Bole District of Savannah Region on how to deal with Fulani herdsmen and to co-exist peacefully in Gonja land.

Chairman for the forum Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor (II) who is also the Vice President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs in his welcome address on behalf of the President of Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, king and overlord of the Gonja kingdom, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa (I) said “my attention has been drawn to the fact that, the Fulbe settler activities across the Savannah Region remain a bigger concern for the people of the Region”.

Buipewura Jinapor (II) said he wants to entreat the House especially the standing committee to put mechanisms and strategies in place to find a way to manage efficiently the Fulbe in the Savannah Region to feel belonging.

Buipewura Jinapor (II) added he was happy for the good works of the House so far, I also wish to extend my profound gratitude to all regional and District heads of the departments for your holistic contribution to the development of the Savannah Region.

“I encourage you to continue your good works towards the development of the Region”, he noted.

Buipewura Jinapor II said the historic dialogue is to brainstorm strategies to improve and protect the vegetation cover of Savannah Region and that it takes commitment and dedication to arrive at a recommendable decision to save the fragile vegetation of the infant Savannah Region.

The Vice President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs and the Chairman of the Standing Committee, Buipewura Jinapor (II) noted that the session was a Regional Dialogue that focuses on building a strong social cohesion and integration of the people of the Savannah Region and that at the end of the session, a roadmap for a harmonious social cohesion in the Region should be considered important for development to take-off.
Speaking at the forum, the Savannah Regional Minister Hon. Saeed Muazu Jjbril said, the issues that engage your attention such as peace and conflict resolution, land disputes, Chieftaincy issues, provision of social amenities, good governance, security are not different from the mandate of the government, so as the representative of the government I believe that finding myself here is like a normal course of business to me, and I am once again grateful for your kind invitation.

I am told one key point of this meeting is having a Regional Consultative Dialogue on matters of social cohesion, particularly as the issue of the Fulbe herdsmen is concerned.

This issue about the Fulbe herdsmen is not new to the Region, it has been discussed many times at many fora by different personalities.

It has preoccupied our attention for quite a long time now all because there is no easy solution to the problems associated with this delicate issue.

He said, this open engagement with our brothers, Fulbe herdsmen at the instance of our traditional leaders is therefore very commendable and welcoming.

It is my prayer that all gathered here today will have open minds and contribute ideas towards building a better society with strong cohesion with all well meaning people, he said.
