The Sawla- Tuna-Kalba District Assembly in the Savannah Region on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, approved its 2022 Composite Budget and Fee Fixing Resolution for 2022 financial year.

In a welcome address by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Coordinating Director, Mr. Mutala Braimah urged members of the assembly to constructively outline their concerns during the budget reading to make productive inputs into the budget since it shall be the working document for the District in the next 12months if not reviewed.

He also used the opportunity to call for the Cooperation of the Assembly members to ensure that the Budget is approved to speed up the pace of development since it is comparably lacking behind in terms of development.

During the presentation, the District Budget Officer, Mr. Yahaya Mahama, said that the reading of the composite Budget is important in the administration of the District because it gives the Assembly the Opportunity to deliberate on the action plan of the District for the coming year whiles considering other policies to be implemented from the previous budget.

He disclosed that the District Assembly generates it’s funds from the internally generated Fund (IGF), the District Development Fund, District Assembly Common Fund with support from other Donor partners and the Assembly is estimating to spend an amount of Gh¢ 10,119,984.00 for the 2022 administrative year.

He added the Budget proposes an Internally Generated Fund of GH¢ 306,201.00.

However, there is an estimated percentage of funds that can be spent within the year hence priority is given to the most pressing issues in the District.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Losina Barkisu in her speech thanked the Assembly members and also pleaded with Assembly Members to get involve in revenue mobilization in the District and reminded them to continue educating the people in their communities about their obligation in paying tax.

The Sawla Wura who was present at the meeting appealed for the construction of an ambulance station to be incorporated into the budget that will be slated for the year 2022 since he has made provision for a piece of land for the said project.

He also suggested the closing of the Sawla Dam which according to him has outlived it’s usefulness and now serving as a death trap to the whole people and vehicles due to its closeness to the road.

He further called on the District Education Directorate to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the posting of teachers to the various communities is well deliberated on since postings are now done at the national level.

Speaking to Yagbon news after the meeting, The Presiding Member of the assembly, Hon. Tilatey Ollo Benjamin urged Assembly members to get involve in revenue generation in the District and reminded them that there were a lot of revenue areas that needed to be tapped and leakages needed to be blocked.

To him, the Assembly needs a lot of revenue to undertake projects and programmes.

The PM emphasized that if the President’s vision is to build a formidable economy then the Sawla District is no exception than to align its vision to that of the President.
