The Member of Parliament ( MP), for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency in the Savannah region, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, has called on the people of his constituency to work together as a team to accelerate the socio-economic development of the area.

He urged the people to come together to help develop the constituency and better the lives of the people.

The deputy ranking member of Parliament Select Committee on Works and Housing who was addressing to hundreds of people on Saturday April 17, 2021, on the occasion of the 9th Annual Congress of the Brifor Women Association held at Tuna urged the people to forge ahead as a united body to work towards the total development of the area.

“There is the need to work together to achieve the goals of the constituency as I alone cannot work to solve all developmental challenges in the constituency”, the MP indicated.

He said collaboration, unity and oneness were the main tenets of development and urged all the chiefs and people to help unveil any effort that could propel the constituency into a haven of growth.

The MP commended the Birfor Women Association for their contributions towards the betterment of the lives of the women in the area as he noted that education is the only key to improving human and societal growth which he said the Association is championing.

He used the opportunity to appeal to parents in the area to take the education of their children serious to enable them to become responsible citizens in the future.

The MP later donated 100 bags of cement towards the opening of a school which has been initiated by the Women Association and assured to always join the women for their Congress every year.

Bole Wura Sarfo Kutuge Feso l, in a speech delivered on his behalf by Tuna Wura Isaac Dramani, in the company of other Chiefs including the Paramount Chief of the Kong Traditional Area,Kong Wura Jinkurige l, noted that a peaceful community and working in unison as a people was the surest way the Bole Traditional Area could attain the development status it desires.

He commended the Birfor Women Association for organizing such an event which he said has built a formidable relationship between the Gonjas and Brifors in his Traditional Area.

According to the Chief such occasion re- Kindles the bond of relationship that has always existed between the Brifors and Gonjas and that the significance of the ceremony cannot be overemphasised since it marks a period of cultural and traditional renaissance among the people of the Bole Traditional Area.

Speaking on the theme for the year’s Congress “Formal education, a tool for socio-economic liberation of women”, the Chief called for the enforcement of policies and efforts aimed at empowering women to appreciate their immense contribution to the socio-economic development of the area.

She also called for the active involvement of women in all areas and matters that affect them in the society.

According to him the issue of women empowerment, gender inequality and gender- based discrimination are very much apparent although the government is working aggressively towards alleviating such problems.

He noted that low empowerment of women and high gender gap still impede the development process of the Traditional Area and hence called for the inclusion of women in all areas of development initiatives to achieve a sustainable development.

Bole Wura Sarfo Kutuge Feso l, urged all the Brifor Women to take responsibility of their own destiny and not engage in unproductive ventures.

Madam Agnes Naawnendoo, President of the Brifor Women’s Association, said the main aim of the group is to bring all the Brifor women together under one unmbrella and work towards reducing poverty which she said is rampant among them.

She said with the initiation of the group members had become breadwinners of many families and called on government to empower women to play their roles effectively as caretakers of their families.

Madam Agnes called on government and benevolent organisations as well as public spirited individuals to support the group.

The event was characterized with cultural display including the selection of a clan queen of which the “Dah” clan topped followed by “Kamire”, the “Suon” were placed third and “Hien” at the bottom in order of contributions of monies made.

The Savannah Regional NPP chairman, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency NPP chairman, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency NDC chairman, the constituency Women organizer for NDC, His Worship Thomas Boadi, Coordinator for Jaksally Development Organization and other top dignitaries all graced the colourful event.
