Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency in the Savannah Region, has appealed for more teachers to be posted to his constituency.

He said the lack of teachers in the area was making education unattractive and negatively affecting teaching and learning.

The Deputy ranking member of Parliament Select Committee on Works and Housing said this when the College for Community and Organizational Development (CCOD), in partnership with Jaksally Development Organization on 7th of April, 2021, inaugurated a mobilization centre at Yerikoi in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

The MP said the situation was dire in some remote communities and called for immediate intervention from stakeholders.

Madam Abiba Abubakari Soale, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Director of Education, equally made the same call for more teachers to be posted to the District to enhance effective teaching and learning.

She told Yagbon News that the situation was worrying as some schools can only boast of a single teacher handling KG to Primary six.

She thus, appealed to the Government to as matter of urgency consider posting teachers as she said the vacancies in the schools are too many.

Madam Abiba Abubakari Soale added her voice to call when the Directorate took delivery of 200 dual desks from the District Assembly to help ameliorate the issue of furniture deficit in schools in the District.

The Regional Minister, Hon. Saaed Muhazu Jibril who was also at Yerikoi during the inauguration of CCOD- Jaksally mobilization center said that though the new region was saddled with several challenges, government was working unremittingly to ensure that the challenges were addressed to enhance rapid socio-economic development.

He assured the chiefs and his elders of the area that their concerns would be addressed and called on them to support government to spearhead the aspirations of the people in the new Region.
