The Ghana Police Service has identified 223 polling stations as Hotspots in the Savannah Region ahead of the December 7, general elections.

According to the Savannah Regional Police Commander, DCOP Enock Bediako, the Yapei/ Kusawgu Constituency tops the list with 55 hotspots with Daboya/ Mankarigu and Salaga South constituencies which have 49 and 48 hotspots taking the second and third positions respectively.

Speaking at a training programme on crime reporting for selected journalists in the Savannah Region at Damongo on October 29, 2020, DCOP Enock Bediako noted that other areas with high hotspots include the Bole- Bamboi Constituency which has 28 hotspots and the Sawla- Tuna-Kalba Constituency with 17 hotspots while Damongo and Salaga North constituencies have 16 and 10 hotspots respectively.

At the forum, the Regional Police Commander DCOP Enock Bediako told the men from the inky fraternity how relevant their roles has become as far as the December 7 elections is concerned.

He added that, in this coming general elections, the media is going to play an important role as far dispensation of their duties in reporting events of the the general elections cannot be underlooked.

DCOP Enock Bediako further stated that, a single report that is false from a journalist can create disorder in the country and hence the need to come together and refresh the minds of the journalists though everyone knows what’s good for us all, but we still need to meet and discuss issues that will make the country peaceful on your reportage.

Mr. Johnson Agbeko, who is the Savannah Regional Officer of the Electoral Commission expressed his heart felt to the Savannah Regional Police Command for organising the training programme which he said has afforded journalists and the Police service the opportunity to exchange ideas in maintaining peace before, during and after the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

He said a journalist covering the elections is supposed to get an accreditation from the Electoral Commission before going to any polling station.

He again added that, “after a journalist has obtained an accreditation, you still need to introduce yourself on the election day, and in the cause of your stay at the polling station, if you see anything going wrong, report to the presiding officer or to the returning officer and you will have your problem resolved”, Mr Agbeko schooled them.

Mr. Abgeko said all the Electoral Officers are trained and know how to respond to any issue at the polling station on the day of voting.

He said the Electoral Commission in Savannah Region is fervently preparing to carry out the December 7 polls devoid of any violence.
