The Savannah Regional Security Council has stated that it has not directed any military to protect the people of Debre during their Damba festival and that it was the 155 Armoured Regiment who were on patrol along the area and has nothing
to do with protecting the people against the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom.

The statement comes as a result of a concern raised by Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu Soale I during a thank tour of the President to the Savannah Region.

According to Yagbonwura a paramount chief in Gonjaland celebrated Damba festival before the Yagbonwura which is a total disrespect to the customs and traditions of Gonjaland kingdom.

Stating that the actions of the chief was backed by the his appointees who deployed military protection to the chief for the festival.

In the backdrop of this concern REGSEC Issued a press statement to explain the true circumstances.

According to the statement, it categorically stated that the REGSEC has not directed any military to protect the people of Debre during their Damba festival and that it was the 155 Armoured Regiment who were on patrol along the area and has nothing to do with protecting the people against the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom.

The statement concluded by stating that it must also be stated, that, any military intervention operation in any part of this region must be directed and sanctioned by REGSEC and that the REGSEC has not met for the last 2 months and for that matter did not sanction any security intervention in the Debre area.

Therefore, the assertion that military personnel were sent by political appointees of government to protect the Debre people to celebrate their Damba is not accurate, the statement concludes.
