The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih together with the District Chief Executive for Wa West madam Vida Diorotey and some military officers on Wednesday 15th June, 2022 inspected some surface illegal mining areas in the District.
The sites visited included the Dorimon – Jambusi Water plant base and the Bulgine poyengtanga enclave.
At the sites, the officer in charge of the Jambusi water expressed his worry about the high cost of treating the water due to pollution by the activities of the illegal miners in the area.
He said the mining activities post great treat to the plant and the water because of human consumption.
The inspection led to the destruction of some mining equipment at the mining sites by the military team with some burnt down.
Meanwhile some farmlands in the affected areas have begun to gain their natural cover with cashew plants been planted at the pit areas.
