FactSpace West Africa in partnership with Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences organized a two days workshop in Tamale for journalist in the regions of the North.

Dr. Wumpini Fatimata Mohammed who is  also an assistant Professor of Communication at Cornell University in the U.S.A Speaking at the program stated that the two days workshop is to provide training on counter sensitive reporting, gender sensitive reporting also Fact- Checking as far as thi years election is concerned.

Dr. Wumpini added that, they decided that they needed this because a lot of the times when they have this kind of programs the often focus on English journalism and so specifically they are bringing in the indigenous language journalist of the North.

Prof. Fatimata noted that bringing in people who broadcast in languages like Waali, Gonja, Chokosi, Dagbanli, Dakari, Mamprusi and Frafra all of this languages and bringing in people with the experience in broadcasting in this languages and provide training the we often will not get in journalism institutions.

“So I think it was an amazing program and the people were very engaged and we learned a lot and it was really great that the group was engaged in the conversation we were having and they shared very great examples”. she said.

Dr. Fatimata also mentioned that as we are going towards the elections her message is that we have one Ghana and we have to work to maintain the peace that we are enjoying currently, and so she will entreat everyone including all the political parties and the Ghanian citizenship to be patient in the way they interact with one another and to also ensure that their participating civilly in very productive way and also very ethical way.

So all want is that we are going to have peaceful elections and then a peaceful transition to a new Government.
