The entire Kachau community in the Wa- District in the Upper West Region has been thrown into a state of mourning after six people drowned in the black volta at Tawoan when their canoe capsized on Sunday.
They were said to have been en route for a funeral across the river when the incident occurred.
Five bodies have since been retrieved and unfortunately they are all from one family,thus; the family of Suurvuon in Kachau.
Yagbon News gathered that they were ten onboard the canoe when the accident occurred but four managed to swim ashore, leaving the six who unfortunately drowned.
Mr John, a resident of Kpaanfaa said a local search team searched for about 24 hours and was able to retrieve five of the bodies yesterday afternoon.
Mr John took the opportunity to advise canoe operators not to overload as the incident had shocked the entire community.
The entire community had been thrown into a state of shock as that was the first time such a disaster had hit the area.
“We can’t understand or explain what might have caused this tragedy.
These six people comprising of one man and five women are from the same family and were heading towards a funeral across the river, the canoe capsized and four of them managed their way out, while six got drowned.
