A student of Political Science at the University of Education, Winneba, Mr Ishmael Abdul-Fataw has said the decision taken by the leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress to have their front bench in Parliament changed is not strange.
According to him, the decision could have being taken on 4th January 2021 but they decided to maintain their old leadership of minority caucus in Parliament.
There have being mix reactions on the decision by the leadership of the National democratic congress to change the leadership of the minority caucus in Parliament.
But speaking to Diwura Abdul-Fataw on Yagbon Radio “teacup” the masters degree student said said it normal in politics however the motive and arrangements is problematic.
He said considering the fact that Hon Ato Forson is an economist and kwame Agbodza being an engineer but they are doing very well in their various committees.
Mr Fataw opined that last year Hon Ato Forson has been fantastic in the finance committee likewise the other four members so why changed them?
He said we should remember that Parliamentary work is centered at the committee level that need competent members to execute your agenda which on the that score that was a bad decision taken.
He further disagreed with the national chairman explanation of regional balance explaining that the NDC has invested a lot in central region which he thinks it will not change any thing.
Mr Abdul-Fataw explained that aside John Dramani Mahama any other successful running mate of the NDC is from the central region.
Lawyer Mohammed Mumuni and Martin Amidu lost their chance to John Mahama which gave Amissah Urther and now Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang the opportunity as running mates, so what regional balance is he referring to?
However the five Northern Region think the party is nationalistic in nature that is why they can wind hundred percent MPs from these regions but can that be compared to the central region which may mean they are not fair to the northerners.
On the aspect of division and fortunes of the party in 2024, he explained that it may not create any crack in a sense that those supporters were just demonstrating to show they are behind their leaders nothing else
Justifying the notion which which stipulates that every eight years a regime is changed may still favour the NDC adding that rational change voter behavior could also influence the voting pattern in favour of NDC as electorates think NDC party may do better considering the current government economic alternatives.
