President John Mahama has called for the strengthening of peace efforts in Gbiniyiri, emphasizing that stability remains a critical foundation for sustainable development in the Savannah Region.

Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GYA), held from April 2 to April 5, 2026, in Buipe in the Savannah Region, President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to the growth and transformation of the area, urging residents particularly the youth to prioritize unity and peaceful coexistence.

The climax of the celebrations, held on April 5, brought together traditional leaders, youth groups, and key stakeholders to mark five decades of the Association’s impact and contributions to development.

The Gonjaland Youth Association, established in 1976, has over the years played a key role in promoting unity, advancing development initiatives, and bridging the gap between youth and traditional leadership within the area.

At the colorful climax of the anniversary, the President of the Association, Alhassan Baba Darison, expressed concern over rising incidents of conflict in parts of the Savannah Region and called on young people to act as ambassadors of peace.

President Mahama, in his address, stressed that peaceful coexistence among indigenous groups and settlers is essential to unlocking the region’s development potential.

“Today, we celebrate not just an association, but a movement that has shaped the identity and progress of Gonjaland. I urge you to continue investing in education and skills, embrace innovation and enterprise, and commit to discipline, service, and integrity,” he stated.

“The Savannah Region is rising, and your role in that rise is indispensable.”

In a speech delivered on his behalf, the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor, commended the Gonjaland Youth Association for its sustained contributions to development and social cohesion over the past five decades.

The anniversary celebration, held under the theme “Five Decades of Progress: Empowering the Gonjaland Youth for the Future,” served as a platform to reinforce the importance of unity, leadership, and youth empowerment in driving long-term development across the Savannah Region.
