The Former Savannah Regional Minister, Mr. Salifu Adam Braimah, yesterday March 15, 2021, handed over the Region’s administration to the newly sworn-in Regional Minister, Mr Saeed Muhazu Jibril, in Damongo.
Mr. Salifu Adam Braimah, highlighted various programmes and initiatives being undertaken in the Region and also spoke about his achievements and the challenges his administration faced.
He mentioned that peace is the only tool that can propel development in the Region as he confidently stated that during his reign as the first Regional Minister for newly created Region, his administration had amicably resolved the chieftaincy dispute in Bole through the Committee of Eminent Chiefs and tasked his successor to follow suit in resolving other chieftaincy disputes he couldn’t resolve before exiting from office.
Mr. Salifu Adam Braimah used the opportunity to thank the Yagbonwura and all his chiefs in the Gonja Traditional Council, MMDCEs, the Security service and all natives of the Region for the immense support he had from them during his tenure which has translated in development of various sectors.
He urged the directors and staff at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council (SRCC) to support his successor in his work.
Mr. Salifu also encouraged the new minister to have confidence in the staff at the Regional administration office, who he described as hardworking.
New administration
Mr. Muhazu Jibril, thanked the President for reposing confidence in him and also expressed gratitude to the former minister for his support.
He also expressed his profound gratitude to all those who supported him in many ways from the consultations stage by the president to his swearing in as the approved Regional Minister.
He particularly thanked the Yagbonwura and his chiefs, his party chairman and his members and all his friends who were with during his vetting to this end as he pledges to work hand in hand with all natives to ensure the developmental needs of the Region are met.
He urged all technocrats in the region to put their his knowledge and expertise at the disposal of the new administration so that the objective of developing the Region further could be achieved swiftly.
He stated that his administration intends to operate an all round office hence the gateway to his open to all at all times to welcome divergent views that will be used tackle issues of development in the Region.
Commitment.
The Regional Minister pledged to continue with the good works of his predecessor and urged the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to cooperate with him to develop the Region.
He expressed concern over the reduction caused in the Region as a result of illegal logging and burning of charcoal in commercial quantities and promised to nip the negative trend into its bud through collaborative efforts from the Chiefs and security personnels (REGSEC), in the area.
Mr. Jibril appealed to traditional leaders in the Region to support fight the menace as he said he will constitute a working committee in collaboration with REGSEC to immediately stop the operations by a factory in the Savannah Regional capital which is encouraging the activities of illegal logging in the Region and asked all involved in the activity to desist from it as REGSEC together with him will meet in coming next week to fashion out ways of tackling the menace.
Outgone deputy Regional Minister, Mr Tika Samuel equally thanked the Chief and people of the Region including the media for the co-operation he received when he was in office and encouraged the new Minister to build upon the unity at the Regional Coordinating Council to foster development in the Region.
According to him the creation of the region was well thought as development of various sectors as rural electrification, road infrastructure among others are dotted across the Region.
Mr. Samuel tasked the new minister to ensure that accommodation for staff at Regional Coordinating Council is solve to allow workers to settle to push up the development agenda of the Region.
On his side, Mr Kapori Abutu, registrar of the Gonja Traditional Council and secretary to the Yagbonwura on behalf of the overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, thanked the President of the Republic for the creation of the Savannah region which he said has benefited the people of the Region enormously.
He added that the Traditional Council appreciates the efforts of the Outgone Regional Minister for his selfishness dedication to his work in bringing development to the Region.
According to him the Outgone regional minister was very cooperative with the Traditional Council which has resulted in the settling of some chieftaincy disputes in the Region and hence tasked the new Minister to follow the same footsteps of the Outgone regional minister to resolve other chieftaincy disputes in the region that in a way are thwarting the development potentials of the region.
The ceremony was attended by MMDCEs in the Region, the security personnels, staff of Regional Coordinating Council and the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Iddrisu Sulemana (Prof Kalomonia) and other party stalwarts.
Mr. Muhazu Jibril was sworn in by the President as the Savannah Regional Minister on 11th March, 2021.
Mr Jibril is the second Regional Minister in the creation of the Savannah Region.
Mr Muhazu Jibril will have no deputy like other Regional Ministers as directed by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
