Kusawgu Wura, Alhasaan Soale Bunyanso ll, newly outdoored Paramount Chief for the Kusawgu Traditional Area in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region, has called on the people to bury their differences and unite to develop the area.
He said without unity, no community, town or country could develop and that unity played a leading role in all spheres of life.
Alhasaan Soale Bunyanso ll, made the call on Sunday, 21st, March, 2021,at the outdooring ceremony held to climax his enskinnment as the Paramount Chief for the Kusawgu Traditional Area.
In a speech at the coronation ceremony, Kusawgu wura Alhasaan Soale Bunyanso ll, pledged to ensure unity and development of the Traditional Area as well as betterment of the lives of the people through effective collaboration with the Central Government, the District Assembly, NGO’s, philanthropists and the good will of the palace to ensure the overall development of the area.
The chief appealed to the government for the provision of a Senior High School (SHS) in the Traditional Area.
He said students who completed Junior High School in the area had to attend SHS at Damongo, Buipe and Tamale which were very far from the area as some parents could not afford the financial cost, making second cycle education not accessible to these students as most of the them are always placed as day students.
According to him, the Traditional Area has allocated a parcel of land for the construction of a Senior High School.
However, his subjects have identified temporal structures at Yapei for the start of a Senior High School to be named after Ghana’s current Vice President, as Dr. Mahamud Bawumia Senior High School Or Vocational/Technical Institute.
He said, his Palace will soon write to the Ghana Education Service and the Central Gonja District Assembly to take steps to ensure a smooth start of the school in the next academic year to bring second education to the door steps for his people.
The new enskinned Chief also appealed to the President to carve a District out of the present Central Gonja District which he describes as the most populous district in the Savannah Region.
He said through the split of the district ,it will bring Governance to the doorsteps of the people so as to bring meaning to effective decentralization and development.
On the provision of portable drinking water, the Paramount Chief urged the contractors working on the Damongo and Tamale water projects to speed up with the work and extend the project to his Traditional Area as most communities in his area still battle for a portable drinking water.
He equally appealed for the extension of electricity to some communities within the Traditional Area which he said are deemed necessary to be connected to the national grid.
On the high spate of road accidents on the Buipe- Tamale stretch, the chief made a passionate appeal to the government through the ministry of interior to establish a fire station at Yapei which he said a land has been allocated for that and also urged government to improve upon the road networks in the area to attract investors into the area.
The Chief called on the Regional Security Committee, DISEC, Forestry and Wildlife Commission and the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs to support the Kusawgu Traditional Area to curb the menace of group hunting that has the tendency of creating insecurity in the area.
Kusawgu wura Alhasaan Soale Bunyanso ll, urged all citizens in the area to bury whatever rancour that existed among them and rather pool their physical and material resources together for speedy development of their area.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Nana Akufo Addo, the Member of Parliament for the Damongo constituency and minister for lands and natural resources, lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor, indicated that president Akuffo-Addo is ready to work hand in hand with the newly outdoreed Kusawgu Wura to bring development closer to the people of the Kusawgu Traditional Area.
According to him he will relay all the concerns raised by the Paramount Chief to the office of the president where the necessary steps will be taken to address them.
Also speaking at the event was the Member of Parliament for the Yapei- Kusawgu Constituency, John Jinapor who equally congratulated the chief on his new appointment and said the peaceful nature of which the transition was done was peaceful and encouraged all other Traditional Areas with chieftaincy disputes to follow suit to promote unity in the Gonja Kingdom to achieve the desired developmental initiatives.
The Savannah Regional Minister, Mr Muhazu Jibril, equally congratulated the new Chief his new position and assured him of the full support of the Regional Security Council anytime the need arises.
According him, he together with the seven MMDCEs and Members of Parliament will always collaborate to take decisions that will always affect the Traditional Areas in the Region positively.
He also called for a peaceful coexistence in the Region which he said is the only way that can push forward the development agenda of the Region.
Present at the colourful event were the former Savannah Regional Minister, the Northern Regional Minister, MMDCEs from various Districts, Northern Regional manager for Ghana Water Company, Representatives of all paroumotcys in the Gonja Kingdom, Executives of the Gonjaland Youth Association and Executives from both NDC and NPP in the Region.
Kusawgu wura Alhasaan Soale Bunyaso Il, who was the Chief of Yapei was elevated to his new position as the Paramount Chief of the Kusawgu Traditional Area by the Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I,to succeed Kusawguwura Kunkarga who died on January,19, 2021.
