The National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, has called for collaboration between the media to combat extremists activities which are subtly gaining grounds in the Sub Sahara, particularly along border communities.

The theme for this year’s PCVE Media advocacy workshop is “Effective Communication For The Sustenance Of PCVE Project”

Speaking at the workshop, the chairperson of NCCE, Ms Kathleen Addy,  mentioned that the Media advocacy workshop is one of the event that they are executing for preventing and containing violent extremism so the project was launch in December 2022.

She mentioned that the programme was funded by the European Union (EU).

The chairperson of NCCE said for the past four years they have been actively working on a project to ensure that Ghanaians who leave at the frontline of the Borders with neighboring countries are properly informed and have the requisite knowledge to respond to threat of Violent Extremism.

Ms. Kathleen Addy, noted that the NCCE started the project that is the baseline study and they also started a project with the Media advocacy program and the idea was to ensure that while the NCCE run the project they also ensure that they equip Media with the skills and the tools to be able to report appropriately on the project.

The chairperson again mentioned that if the Media do their very best and the Media coverage is not a true reflection of what the Media is doing is like the work done is zero.

“In this case it is more critical because is not just about showing that NCCE did a good job but ensuring that the objective of the project which is to ensure that people have the understanding and know how to be able to handle this threat that we face as a country the Media is part of spreading that agenda she said”

Ms. Kathleen stated that in eighteen months they have done so many engagements like town hall meeting, youth engagements and meeting with the Political Parties and so the project is getting to the end the NCCE is back again with another Media advocacy program to ensure that the skills that they have impacted at the beginning of the project now become part of the value system of the Media personal.

Ms. Kathleen highlighting on December 7th polls and she mentioned that it is in the enlighten self interest of every citizen to understand this principle that loosing your life, getting injured, shedding blood for Political Power is not worth it.

So those who lost their lives did not get it back, so if you go and under take violent activities and your party wins, if you are Dead you are gone, if you lost a limb and if you lost an eye it will not grow back so it is in our own interest.

Again in Ghana we are practicing a multi party Democracy so there will be multiple parties and people have the right to support any party that they want so we have the right to campaign for our party to win.
