The Ministry of National Security has intensified its “see something, say something” campaign in the Bole SHS of the Bole District to monitor and avert the intrusion of violent extremists into the District.
According to the Ministry, the campaign is aimed at creating awareness and alertness among community members to report suspicious characters living in their communities to security agencies to help curb the menace of violent extremists.
Speaking at the event in the Bole SHS Mr. Sei Kofi who is the National Security Officer for Savannah Region, mentioned that some twenty years ago we do hear this terrorist or extremist activities and we heard of the September 9th in USA, Boko Haram in Nigeria, the Islamic State activities in Iraq and Kuwait and we feel that it is too far from Ghana.
Mr. Sei Kofi added that, over the few years the activities of this extremist or terrorist have move very close to our door post, that is Togo have suffer it, Burkina Faso have suffer it and Cote de’ivoire suffer it too.
“So as a people we are lucky so far no terrorist activities has been recorded in Ghana and it means that in Ghana we have done something unique that is why these person can not have a safe heaven in our country he said”.
Speaking to Yagbon News Mr. Kester Osei, team member of See Something, Say Something at the Ministry of National Security, noted that the recent development in our neighboring community as far back as 2001 where a whole USA was hit by terrorist attacks and it has move down to Africa and in our neighboring countries such as Togo, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Cote de’ ivoire have some pickets of violence and terrorist activities in their communities of their country.
Mr. Kester again mentioned that the National Security will not sit aloof and wait for some of this things to happen, so this practice measure by government was launch two years ago to involve the citizens in our Security and there is a whole of government approach so this is a society approach to involve the citizens in our Security.
Mr. Kester again said the message has been sent to about eleven regions in the country and they are in their twelve region which is the Savannah Region and they have been to the Western North, Western, Central, the five Northern regions and their target is the chiefs, the community leaders, the religious leaders, the political leaders and the students most importantly.
“As we are here in the Bole SHS we believe that if we catch them young the culture of vigilant will stay with them, some of us and other generation didn’t grow up having this things at our finger tips he said”,
In addition the National Security member stated that this campaign was launch to ensure that every citizen is aware of their surrounding and when they see something they will say something by calling the toll free number 999.
After the sensitization of the students in Bole SHS the National Security team move to the palace of the Bolewura to pay a courtesy call on him and to brief him on issues of security in the country.
In attendance was the DCE, all Security agencies, assembly members, cattle owners, youth groups.
