The Chief of Kalba, Kalba wura Amaliya Saaka, has organized a communal labor with the youth of the area to fix the deplorable Tuna-Kalba road.
The effort of the Kalba Chief is to ensure the major road that links from Tuna to Kalba is motorable.
Hundreds of youth and the elderly came out in their numbers to partake in the communal labor to ensure that they fix the road which has turned into a death trap.
According to the Chief of Kalba transport vehicles cannot move out or enter Kalba due to the bad nature of the road as the rains set in.
Chief Amaliya lamented that past and present government has failed to fix the deplorable Tuna-Kalba road despite their daily struggles in accessing the road.
He appealed to the ruling government through the District Assembly to ensure that the road is fixed.
“We appeal to President Akufo-Addo and his government to fix the road, we have lost several people while others got injured severely from this area because of the bad nature of the road”.
The 20-kilometre Tuna Kalba Road is one of the major roads in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
The road does not only lead to the second-biggest market in the District but also serves as the only route of several communities to Sawla the District capital.
It also links the district to Ivory Coast, Burkina and Wechiau in the Upper West Region.
But the road has never seen any major construction in as many years.
In 2016, it was awarded to Messrs Logistics Support Services Ltd under the road fund.
But nothing has been seen of the contractor since 2017 leaving the road to deteriorate over the period.
The nature of the road gets worsened especially during the rainy season.
