Women of Konkrompe, in the Sawla- Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah region have appealed to the government to support the community with a health facility to enable them to have timely and easy access to quality health care.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of a community health centre, indicating that the lack of such a facility had left them with limited healthcare alternatives, forcing them to seek healthcare in the District capital, Sawla.
“Pregnant women sometimes lose their unborn babies because they are unable to access antenatal care and skilled delivery,” they said.
Speaking in an interview, the President of the Konkrompe Women Association, madam Dari Sarah , stated that the situation was getting worse by the day and that pregnant women were particularly vulnerable.
“Our people always have to travel to the Sawla District Hospital for medical attention and also pregnant women are forced to go all the way to Sawla to seek antenatal care and during labour which is not always safe for them,” she said.
They made the appeal on Saturday April 15th, 2023, during the third annual celebration of the Konkrompe Women Association.
The association president consequently urged the government, as well as other charitable organisations and individuals, to provide them with a health centre to alleviate their difficulties in obtaining health care.
According to her ,the community through their own efforts has been able to build the structure leaving aside other works on the structure.
The Member of Parliament of the area, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, has however donated 5 packets of roofing sheets to the community to enable them roof the structure.
Among other social needs that the women demanded for includes the provision of potable drinking water and the extension of electricity to the community.
