The new King of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) has been outdoored on Wednesday 21st March 2023 at the Jakpa palace at Damongo in the Savannah Region.
In a speech read by Benkromwura SS Bakari on behalf of the Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu Soale (I), said I will as a matter of urgency pay critical attention first to the effectiveness, integrity and accountability of the Jakpa palace for it mandate to govern, and will also work to restore full functions of the principal councilors of Yagbonwura within my 100 days in office.
In this regard I gave notice to Kakulasewura, Beiwura, Sakpawura, Tariwura and Jahoriwura of my intention to fully engage with them on their respective special duties in the Jakpa palace and beyond.
Yagbonwura also mention that ” I also assure the kingmakers of my commitment to my oaths to maintain the integrity of the Gonja Kingdom it’s possession, territories, people and culture for the good of all it’s people”.
The King of Gonjaland also talked about the Education in the Savannah Region, he stated that the Savannah Region is placed at the bottom of all the other regions with an average pass of 5.4% at the most recent WASSCE exams.
So I call on the Savannah Regional Education Directorate, GLYA, the Religious bodies and all other stakeholders in Education to within the next three(3) months come up with recommendations as to how to remedy the situation, he stated.
Touching on security, the Yagbonwura said no investor will invest in an area where there is no peace and security, just as no government will be Keen to spend public funds in an area where conflicts can easily lead to the destruction of public properties so I shall endeavor to ensure justice, equity and fairness in the adjudication of chieftiancy, land and other matters brought before me.
Speaking at the outdooring of the Yagbonwura, the Former President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama, said in 1952 his father was the clerk of the Gonja state council and he sign the enactment that brought the Gonja state council into being.
John Dramani Mahama added that by that enactment it designated Jira Sonyorwura as the Vice President of the state council and acting President in the absence of any Yagbonwura and am happy to say that the process has worked to perfection.
John Mahama added he feels very proud to be a Gonja because it is not the same in many other traditional areas, all of us are brothers and sisters the Mamprusis are our brothers and sisters, the Dagombas are our brothers and sisters so there is no need for us to have conflicts because of land dispute so I wish to beg the Yagbonwura to make it one of his priorities as he said.
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in his speech congratulated the new Yagbonwura Bii kunuto Jewu Soale (I)for his enskinment and outdooring .
This is a great day and a historic day in the Gonja Kingdom and Ghana at large, it is day of Joy and celebration, he said
The Vice President mentioned again, in terms of land marks the Savannah Region which comprises of the Gonja state is the largest in Ghana.
This tells you about the exploit of the founder Ndewura Jakpa who established this kingdom and the process of getting to Yagbon and the enskinment of Yagbonwura has been clearly laid out and there was no dispute when the late Yagbonwura passes on.
Lastly the Vice President mentioned that we are one people in the North and we should always remember that our enemy is poverty and we should come together to have development, so we can’t have development without peace, we should work together to have peace.
The new Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) was enskined by the Kagbapewura at Nyange on Tuesday 20th March 2023 per tradition and moved to Damongo.
Chiefs and Queen mothers, Sons and daughters of Gonjaland, MP’s, DCE’s, the clergy and Government appointees were all present to witness the outdooring of the Gonja King.
