The Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has on May 6, 2023 commissioned a rural telephony mast at Sumpini in the West Gonja Municipality.

Commissioning the Rural Telephony project telecom mast at Sumpini, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful who is also the lawmaker for Ablekuma West said you asked for the network and your MP who intend notified us and work with us to ensure that we got this up and running so you are fortunate.

The minister mentioned that out of eight (8) sites in West Gonja, we have technical challenges with about six(6) and two are currently working Sumpini and Mognori but we are working on the other six (6) and we are hopeful that within the next few months they would also be up.

In addition we are doing this because we know how important connectivity is for developing our country and growing our economy so everything this Government has done since we took office in 2017 is to ensure that as many people as possible are connected to a good voice and data services so that they can also use mobile money, learned remotely, trade remotely, utilize all the digital services that we are rolling out and can also applied for Government goods and services right from here without moving to Damongo or any of the big towns around here.

We are very determined that we will leave no one behind and happy that we are here to commission the Sumpini rural telephony network which spread in a 20 mile radius so that all the surrounding communities even when you go to your farms you can get network there to communicate and we all how important it is for emergency services if anybody has problems and if some armed rubber is attacking you you need to be able to cry for help quickly and without a network you can’t do that and am also very happy to see so many young girls here.

In addition technology is made for women so I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity and learn how to use it to make your work better whether you are processing shear butter or ground nuts or farming any other produce you can use technology help make it better for you and you can sell online and received your money through Mobile Money.

She congratulated the chiefs and people of this community, your MCE, the Assembly Man and the MP and all those who worked so hard to make sure that we could see a successful commissioning today.

She again mentioned that the NPP Government led by the Nana Akufo- Addo and supported by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia working through Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor to ensure that Damongo Constituency get more development .

Speaking at the commissioning at Sumpini the CEO Mr. Prince Ofosu Sefah mentioned that GIFEC was established in 2004 under former President Kuffour and our job is to make sure that digitalzation leaves no one behind and we have been doing this since that time that includes provision of has network connectivity.

Musah Kusubari, MCE for West Gonja municipal on behalf of the MP said during the 2020 campaign the people of Sumpini made a passionate appeal to the then candidate for a Mobile network and also to connect the community to National Grid and now I can tell you that Sumpini has been connected to the National Grid and today too we are here again to commission telephony network.

Sumpiniwura mentioned that the biggest challenges facing the community was how to get connected to the National Grid and I can say that we are now sleeping in light and the second challenge was how to get telephoney network in the community and now we are very excited that today it has been Commissioned by the sector Minister Hon. Ursula Owusu.

He thanked the minister and her entourage for given them such project.

Hon. Ursula Owusu also inspected a telephone Mast at Langatere which is also being build by GIFEC and she promised to the people of Langatere that by the end of this year the telephone network will be connected and that is why she’s here today to have an inspection and promise them to be patient because it has a technical problem after mounting the mast.

GIFEC is an Agency of the Ministry of Communication, which facilitates the provision of basic telephony to un-served and underserved communities in the country.
