Educational institutions periodically upgrade their curriculum and pedagogy to meet the new standards of education.
However, classroom ergonomics, that is seating arrangement, desks, and chairs in the classroom, which are one of the most important elements of a learning atmosphere, receive little consideration.
Meanwhile, the physical comfort of a student in the classroom is a vital subject that must be addressed.
In light of this, HiChale, an NGO operating within the Kalba enclave on Friday November 3, 2023, donated 94 dual desks to seven schools in the Sawla-Tuna- Kalba District.
The schools which benefited from the project included; St. Bernard’s RC KG and Primary school in Jorchimtee, Kalba DA Primary school, Kalba RC Primary school, Konhintee DA Primary, Garkuon RC Primary, St. Joseph’s JHS Kalba and HAGEN’s JHS also in Kalba.
This project is part of an overall effort to support primary education in rural areas.
For quite some time, the above-mentioned schools in the Kalba enclave have been noted as being devoid of desks.
The condition also makes the learning and teaching environment unconducive, reducing the standard of education to which these children are entitled.
A message read on behalf of the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for Kalba circuit, acknowledged the significant support the NGO has been giving to the education in the circuit.
He mentioned that some basic schools would have collapsed completely but for the intervention of the NGO in providing volunteer teachers who have kept those schools active.
The Parish Priest of Kalba Parish also called on parents and teachers to ensure the maintenance of enrolment in order for all kids in the area to benefit from such projects .
The managing Director of the NGO, Mr. Emmanuel Dery Kuusani, called on managers of the beneficiary schools to ensure the furniture are well taken care of to avoid damage by the kids so that they can last longer. He added that the best way to appreciate donors is to ensure projects are sustained.
Background of HiChale.
HiChale is a new NGO that was formed in March 2023 from a Church based partnership between the people of Kalba Parish and their friends from Altenberge-Erika in Germany through a Catholic missionary, Rev. Father Hagen (Of Blessed Memory).
The NGO continues with the vision of this partnership, which has over 4 decades financed hundreds of development projects in the Kalba area.
These projects include but not limited to healthcare support, including the only health centre in Kalba zone, educational support in terms of building schools, water supply in terms of providing boreholes and dams, social support to the needy in terms of basic needs, sponsorship of students and many others.
The HiChale NGO is formed to continue this development agenda not only in Kalba but also in Funsi now, through collaboration with the popular female Ghanaian artist, Wiyaala.
