Fifteen foreign nationals have been arrested for entering the country through an unapproved route at Kakiase in the Bole District of the Savannah Region.
The Bole District command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) told Yagbon News in an interview that the migrants, who were all Togolese were arrested at the Kakiase Police Check Point on July 3, 2020, who were travelling on a mini Samyong bus with registration number AS 1494- 18 after entering the country through the Tatale border in the Northern Region.
Bole District Superintendent of Immigration, Mr Stephen Maxwell Adigo said “Preliminary investigations revealed that they were travelling to Tumtumba for illegal mining purposes”, he said.
Mr Maxwell explained that the illegal migrants were screened and handed over to the Togo authorities on the other side of the Tatale border in the Northern Region.
“As far as our operational functions are concerned, coupled with the President’s directive on the closure of our borders as part of the measures to halt cross border infection of COVID-19, the Ghana Immigration Service is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that undocumented, prohibited and irregular migrants are not allowed entry into Ghana through unapproved routes”, he explained.
Mr Maxwell therefore, entreated the general public, particularly, the border residents to collaborate with Ghana Immigration Service and to volunteer information on illegal migration to the GIS to help end the menace.
“The service wishes to remind the Ghanaian citizens who are complicit in the exodus migration of other ECOWAS nationals into Ghana through unapproved routes to either desist from the illegal act or be prepared to face the wrath of the law’ he warned.
