A police officer in the Sawla- Tuna- Kalba district escorting vehicles from Tuna checkpoint to Sawla on the Sawla-Wa highway has left an armed robber with wounds after the robbers opened fire on a vehicle he was escorting on Yesterday, March 29, 2020.
According to the police officer, upon reaching Daniwuur a village about 500 metres from the Tuna checkpoint, a gang of robbers with one wielding gun and others cutlasses opened fire which was quickly responded by the escort police officer.
The escort police officer managed to hit the robber with the gun and as he was falling he left the gun and his accomplices held him and carried him into the a dark bush.
The escort Lance corporal called for reinforcement which was responded quickly but due to the poor visibility they could not comb the area, the robber’s single barrel gun and a touch light has been retrieved by the police for evidence purposes.
The police in the District is appealing to residents in the area to report to the police in case they found any suspect with gun shots in any community for treatment.
Meanwhile the Savannah Regional police command has urged residents in the Region to have trust in the police and also help the police with reliable information to combat crime especially on the Bamboi-Wa highway robbery.
