The Savannah Regional Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), would soon embark on safety compliance exercise and any undertaking found in breach of national environmental safety standards would be close-down.

Mr Jimah Lory, Savannah Regional Acting Head of EPA stated this during an interview with Abdul Fatawu on Yagbon Radio morning show on May, 21, 2021, as part of the Agency’s effort to access the level of environmental compliance of undertakings in the Region.

He said the Agency would embark on a safety compliance exercise to create a continuous awareness of the EPA’s monitoring and enforcement mandate in the Region and to prevent adversity associated with any form of pollution.

The Acting Head of the Savannah Regional EPA, said the Agency would embark on an enforcement and compliance exercise in all the districts in the region to ensure that undertakings adhered to environmental safety guidelines and those that faulted would be close-down and be made to face the remits of the law court.

Mr Lory expressed concern that undertakings that do not have the permit of EPA have the tendency of causing harmful effects on the environment which in the long run can disturb the ecosystem of mankind.

He said EPA would not allow undertakings operating illegally to harm the environment and any undertakings found to have breached the law would be closed down through due process of the exercise, he added.

Mr. Lory also urged the public to collaborate with EPA to ensure that the environment is safe for living as he emphasised that an environmental harm caused by an illegal undertaking can affect the environment globally and hence the need for undertakings to obtain permits from EPA before they start operations.

He indicated that the Agency would be in the Bole District on 1st June, 2021, to ensure that fuel stations, hotels, cold stores, water producing outlets and pesticides retail dealers have got all the necessary permit to avoid any harm on the environment.
