The commemoration of African Anti-Corruption Day 2026, observed on July 11, 2026, has brought to the fore the critical role of youth in combating corruption in Africa. The occasion, themed “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa,” was marked in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District by NORTHCODE Ghana, in partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and Ghana Education Service (GES), with sponsorship from the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC).The event, held in three educational institutions – St. Cyprian Minor Seminary/Senior High School, St. Augustine’s Junior High School, and St. Monica’s Junior High School – aimed to sensitize students on the importance of integrity and anti-corruption actions. The interactive sessions focused on promoting a culture of transparency and accountability among the youth, highlighting the devastating effects of corruption on Africa’s development, including hindered economic growth, poverty, and inequality.”Corruption undermines our efforts to achieve sustainable development and good governance,” said a facilitator. “It’s time for us, the youth, to take action and demand accountability from our leaders.”The event featured an Open Forum, where students shared their views and experiences on corruption and integrity. Story harvesting sessions captured the impact of previous engagements, highlighting success stories and challenges.”The youth are the catalysts for change in this fight against corruption,” said Mr. Luke Panpogee, Senior Project Officer of NORTHCODE Ghana. “They can play a critical role in promoting integrity, reporting corruption incidents, and holding leaders accountable. We must empower them with the knowledge and skills to drive this change.”The “See Something, Say Something” initiative was promoted, encouraging students to report corruption incidents and become anti-corruption ambassadors in their communities. The 2026 Africa Anti-Corruption Day activities are supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
