Centre For National Culture Sensitizes Communities On Early Child Marriage.

The Centre for National Culture has held a sensitization programs on early child marriage in some five communities in the Bole District of Savannah Region.

The project which is dubbed “For Our Bright Future, End Child Marriage Now” was sponsored by UNICEF was expected to change some cultural beliefs on a girl child and improved their access to education.

The project included an educative drama on early child marriage and it effects on the family with stakeholders including social Welfare,DOVVSU,GHS ,GES among others.

The various stakeholders were given an opportunity to address community members on the need to safeguard children against early marriage.

Addressing the media, the Regional Director for CNC chief Tuyumba Azumah Ibrahim said the program came at the right time as parents and children will get to under the consequences of early child marriage.

According to chief Tuya Naa ,the old tradition to keep a woman till her marriage is due is gradually fading off in our homes.

Chief Tuyumba called on parents and guardians to pay more attention to girl child education instead of given them out for marriage.

He said the girl child can do better if they are given the opportunity.

The team successfully visited sonyo, Dakurpe, Sokura Signyekura and Kaburpe all within the Bole District.

The various community leaders were made to sign pledges of abolishing child marriages their communities.
