Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II, the Paramount Chief of Busunu Traditional Area on Wednesday, 11th March, 2020 placed a strong ban on group hunting as a result of adverse effects on the farming communities.
Speaking to some of the communal hunters who were arrested and escorted to his palace by a teaming youth of Busunu; Jira Monasa said, his people complains bitterly of the unwholesome activities of these hunters which is affecting the Traditional Area.
I can’t sit and watch my people perish in the hands of these lawless hunting he said.
After consultation and deliberation with the Royal Gates, the Tindanas, Akepos, Youth groups and the religious leader, declared that these arrested hunters should be set free and caution them never to come back and engage such hunting activity in his Traditional Area.

Community members then took turns to deliberate extensively on the negative aspects of these communal hunting is impacting in the area as,
Farm lands and harvested crops of poor farmers which have been burnt by these communal hunters who troupes into the Gonjaland with articulators and cargo trucks,
Mango and cashew plantation in Langantere commonly called ‘Rampa Farms’ in the Busunu Traditional Area has over the years experienced seasonal and periodic burning by these hunters, hence retarding the plantations growth.
Farmers in Lorto, Dendilenpa, Mempeasem, Kojokura, Wawato, Sorto etc have equally complained of the stealing of their farm produce by these self-branded hunters.
Fulani settlements and Communities where these group hunters alight, mostly have their domestic animals killed and taken away at dust,
The vulnerable; women and children can no longer walk to the farm or search for dry wood unescorted for fear of being molested by these hunters.
The hunters are so great in numbers that every animal they come across is chased and killed including sacred animals and others considered as totem that have spiritual effects on the land.
Considering the above and many more, Busunuwura Jonokpowu II and his elders, clan heads, out-communities, the youth etc again issue warning to most especially those into group hunting to desist from the act in the traditional area or face their wrath when caught.
Before this second warning a communique was earlier issued by Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II on March 03, 2020, informing hunters from Tamale or Dagombas’ that their activities are prohibited in his Traditional Area from Fulfulso-Junction to Damongo in the Savannah Region.
