The Bole District Health Directorate will from July 20- 26 begin the first round of the annual distribution of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention drugs District wide.
Mr. David Bakuri, the Bole District Health Director made this known during a stakeholders meeting on Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention for the year 2020.
He said the exercise will be in four rounds with the first round starting from July 20- 26, round two also starts from August 17- 23, September 14- 20 will cover round three and round four will span from October 12- 18.
According to Mr David children between 3- 59 months are the targeted groups because they are most venerable to the malaria parasite.
“Children between 3-59 months in the Bole District will be given sulfadoxine pyrimethamine plus Amodiaquine with the objective of maintaining adequate blood levels of the antimalarials”, David indicated.
He added that the move is part of the preventive measures put in place to combat malaria under five years.
According to him malaria continues to claim too many lives in Africa especially children under five years and pregnant women which health workers must take notice ofto ven though covid-19 is a trend disease in the system, there is the need to look at other communicable affecting and taking the lives of many in the country.
The District Director therefore urged parents and guardians to make their wards available at their homes so that they will be vaccinated against the malaria parasite.
“when you see the team from our directorate kindly allow them entry into your homes so that the drugs will be given to your wards which will protect them against malaria infection”, David pleaded.
The drug is free of no charge and make sure you report to the nearest health facility if you notice any reactions from your ward after taking the drug, Mr David encouraged parents.
On her side the District Chief Executive for the area Hon. Veronica Alele Heming encouraged all parents to ensure that their children within the stipulated months are vaccinated against the malaria parasite.
The DCE reminded the residents of Bole and Ghanaians at large that covid-19 is still with us and encouraged all to continue with the observance of its protocols.
