Efforts to boost local governance and participatory democracy have been given a push in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region with the inauguration Area Councils.

Four Area Councils made up of Sawla,  Tuna, Gindabor and Sanyeri were inaugurated during a short ceremony at Sawla.

Speaking during the inauguration the presiding member for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Hon. Abdulai Mohammed said the exercise is novel in the District which is an indication of better things to come under the current administration.

As an Assembly member for Kawurbi he said better things can only happen in the District if assembly and unit committee members work together devoid of political and tribal differences.

The PM went ahead to state that power of the state is in the hands of the grassroot for that matter assembly and unit committee members , however if they don’t utilize the power then they will be losing a lot of resources to wrong hands.

He explained that Internally Generated Funds of the assembly is supposed to be mobilized by assembly and unit committee members for the development of their areas and the entire District but if they fail to live up to expectations then the assembly will be losing greatly.

The District Chief Executive for the area Hon. Jacob K Domakawe said the inaugural ceremony is a significant milestone in the grassroot development of the District assembly .

He said for it to be a novelty since the assembly was created in 2004 then is a push for assembly members not sit aloof but but sit up in mobilize resources for development of the District.

Hon. Domakawe said common fund is no more common so the assemblies are only depending on SOCO among other funds which includes IGF.

He said mobilizing resources by assembly and unit committee members will be fiercely resisted but they need to push hard because change is a gradual process.

The DCE said they should be totally involved in every thing that happens in their various electoral areas for quality of delivery in all aspects of development.
