Bole District emerged victories in the girls’ category of the maiden edition of the Savannah Region under 15 Boys and Girls cross-country event organised together with the Under 13 Boys football at Damango from 24th to 26th May, 2022.

After a rather disappointing performance of the football team where Bole finished bottom of the ranking, pressure was on the athletics team to salvage the image of the District which Director is the Chairman of the Basic Schools Sports Committee in the region.

At the end of the four(4) kilometers race, a girl called Enestina Tengine of Gbogdaa Methodist JHS finished first whiles Mary Antara Adu of Dibouyiri Primary School came second. The two other runners for Bole District by names Comfort Lesuntey of Simariyiri JHS and Noyoyiri Dorkpeen of Dibouyiri Primary finished 6th and 24th respectively.

In all 42 girls from the 7 districts took part in the girls’ under 15 cross-country event on Friday May 27, 2022 which preceded the boys soccer finals.

In the boys category, Bole finished 6th on the table as none of the boys came in the first 10.

In a telephone interview with me immediately after the race, coach of the athletics team Mr Osman Issahaku aka Champion who was obviously happy said he was not surprised at the performance of the girls. He said the Bole girls had won the last two events as well.

‘This is the third consecutive time that my girls are winning cross country: In Buipe in 2019( Northern regional basic school competition) and In Damongo 2021( national cross country).

He added that with adequate preparation Bole District would always do better in the girls’ athletics competitions.

Unfortunately, only the first girl and the first boy were Medals but no certificate whiles a trophy was also presented to each winning team. West Gonja District which won the boys’ category came second in the girls. STK finish 4th in both categories.

Bole District will host the nest under 13 boys soccer and under 15 Boys and Girls cross-country event in 2023.
