The Vice President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor ll, has implored the Standing Order Committee of the House to help resolve the Damongo chieftaincy dispute, to foster development in the Region.

He said peaceful coexistence among chiefs is a necessary tool for the socio-economic development in the region and that the House will be incomplete until the chief of Damongo is included in the Regional House of Chiefs.

He indicated that all must endeavour to avoid disputes among themselves to guarantee progressive socio-economic development for the benefit of all in their respective areas.

The Chief made this known when the House held its General Meeting for the year ending, on Wednesday, 29th December, 2021, at Damongo, with a call on the Standing Committee to resolve the Damongo chieftaincy disputes within three months stipulated time.

The Damongo chieftaincy issue has been a major concern of the Gonja Traditional Council (GTC) since 2016, with two rivals chiefs claiming ownership of the Damongowura’s skin.

The issue is currently at the House of Chiefs court to achieve a lasting resolution.

Speaking on behalf of the Yagbonwura Tutumba Bore Essa (I) and president of the House of Chiefs, the vice president Buipewura explained that the Damongo chieftaincy issue has been an issue of concern to the chieftaincy institution of the Savannah Region and that the House will be incomplete without the inclusion of Damongo wura and hence implored the Standing Committee of the House to take the matter up and get a Judicial Committee in place to address the impasse.

Buipewura again said by the close of January 2022, the House shall hold a meeting with leaders of Fulani communities in the Savannah Region, in an attempt to stem the rising incidence of violent crimes in the Region between farmers and the herdsmen.

The chief lauded the House for the immense contributions towards the ban of exportation of charcoal in commercial quantities outside and the Region and urged them to continue the fight till the vegetation cover of the Region is restored.

He commended the efforts of every chief, heads of departments and all residents of the region in their roles played in ensuring that the Region gets its development needs it desires.

The chief urged all to celebrate the Christmas and New year festivities with moderation.
