A station officer with the Dormaa-West District Police command sergeant Joseph Sotitey Bronya was adjudged the overall District best farmer at the Dormaa-West District of the Bono region in this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration.

Sergeant Joseph has large acres of cassava, okra, maize, plantain, pepper, teak, cocoa, yam, citrus, cocoyam among others.

He is also into goat, sheep, cattle, fish and poultry farming. He rears 43 sheep, 1,000 birds,13 cattles as well as 15 goats under very strict hygienic conditions.

For his prize, she was presented with a tricycle, knapsack sprayer, cutlasses GTP textiles, soap and a certificate.

Speaking to Yagbon News on the sidelines of the event, which was organised at Yaw Owusukrom, the police officer called on the youth not to see farming as a last resort but an activity that should be a life time practice.

He encouraged the youth to consider venturing into agriculture because it was a lucrative area that had the potential of supporting their livelihood.

He commended the Government for introducing the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, which he said would make the country self-sufficient in food production and exports.

The police officer urged the youth to erase the perception that agriculture was for the less privileged, adding that it was rather for people who were determined to make a mark in feeding the nation and the World.

He also charged the youth to avail themselves and venture into farming because Government was assisting to transform the sector.
