Savannah Region: Yellow fever death toll rises to 34.

Yellow fever outbreak in the Savannah region has so far killed 34 people out of 184 suspected cases despite attempts to quell the outbreak, Savannah Regional Health Directorate revealed.

The first case of yellow fever in the region was reported at the West Gonja District.

Since then, cases have been reported from all the Districts in the Region.

Among the strongly hit District is the West Gonja District, Savannah regional capital with a total of 13 deaths , according to the figures provided on Thursday morning by the Savannah Regional Health Directorate in a press briefing.

Yellow fever, a viral disease which mostly affects the tropical regions of Africa and America Amazon. It may however be combated through vaccination or, in default, in protection against mosquito bites.

According to the Regional Health Director, Mr Chrisantus Kubio, the Directorate has embarked on a rigorous vaccination exercise in all affected areas in the region and urged all residents to avail themselves for the vaccination exercise.

He however added that for the past one week there has no been any new reported cases of yellow fever in the Region.

Some of notable signs and symptoms of yellow fever includes fever, headache, nausea and vomiting and very serious cases may lead to clotting disorder, fatal heart, liver and kidney conditions.

The Regional Health Director also reminded residents to be wary of the coronavirus pandemic as he said the virus is still within us and urged all to vaccinate against the novel coronavirus.
