The Assembly man for Mempeasem Electoral Area in the Bole District,Hon. Mohammed Shiraz-Deen has appealed to the Local Government Ministry to elevate the Bole District Assembly to the status of a Municipal Assembly.

Hon. Shiraz-Deen spoke at the back of the 2021 PHC figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service which the Bole District now has a population of 115,800 hence it qualifies to be elevated to be elevated to the status as a municipal assembly.

He explained, the assembly has performed satisfactorily despite the challenges and an elevation will make them perform far better.

The Assemblyman opined that, the elevation will make it easier for them to champion development and improve upon its administrative work.

Hon. Shiraz-Deen said the elevation will further allow them to generate more revenue to embark on a number infrastructural projects in the assembly.

“We shall be getting a department of Urban Roads which will aid in solving the road problems confronting us. Today there are a lot of areas in Bole, Tinga, Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi townships where a vehicle cannot access in case of an emergency,” he said.

According to him, the District Police Command will be elevated into a Divisional Command, meaning more police personnel will be posted to our areas to curb crime, we shall also be getting office of MTTD to check over speeding and faulty vehicles which are killing our people daily and also, we shall get DOVVSU to take care of domestic related crimes, when a municipal status is attained.

He again mentioned that the number of refuse containers deployed by Zoomlion for waste management in our District will also be increased and probably, the four containers I requested for Mempeasem Electoral Area will even metamorphosed into six. Also, the number of Zoomlion workers from our District will also increase substantially and God willing I may be able to get ten people recruited from my Electoral Area, Mempeasem.

The local government system consists of a Regional Co-ordinating Council, a four-tier Metropolitan and a three-tier Municipal/District Assemblies Structure.

The District Assemblies are either Metropolitan (population over 250,000), Municipal (population over 95,000) or District (population 75,000 and over).

Created as the pivot of administrative and developmental decision-making in the district and the basic unit of government administration.

It is assigned with deliberative, legislative as well as executive functions.
