The Bole District Health Directorate has recorded a tremendous drop in malaria cases in the District.

The District recorded 30,635 malaria cases in 2020 as compared to 36,086 and 32,095 cases recorded in 2019 and 2018 respectively.

The figure represents a total decrease of 5,451 cases of malaria recorded in the Bole district in 2020.

Mr. Nketiah Edison, the District Health Promotion Officer disclosed this in an interview with Yagbon News after engaging stakeholders on July 09, 2021, on the 2021 Seasonal Malaria Chemo prevention exercise which starts on July 12 to July 18.

He added that the decline in the cases was as a result of a number of interventions that included; the introduction of the seasonal malaria chemo prevention for children from 3 months to 59 months to prevent malaria infections among children in the District.

Other methods accounting to the successful reduction of malaria cases in the District included; public education on malaria preventive methods such as draining and spraying stagnant waters to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes within the district.

Mr Edison therefore called on all care givers to ensure that their children take the anti- malaria when health personals administer the drug in their homes to help further reduce the cases of malaria in the District.

He added that the drug will be administered in four rounds with the first round starting from July 12 to July 18, 2021.

Hajia Fuseina Sulemana, the newly posted Health Director for the Bole District seized the opportunity to introduce herself to to gathering expressed concern on the bad use of mosquito nets despite the numerous sensitization and education stressing that people should not use the nets to fence their gardens and urged the public to use the net as it was a safest measure to prevent malaria aside the vaccination.
