ASP Degraft Adjei Armah, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Police Commander in the Savannah region on Monday, 30th November, 2020 in an interview with Diwura Abdul-Fataw on “Tea cup” morning show of Yagbon Radio has assured the public not to be afraid but be free and come out and exercise their national franchise because it’s an electoral obligation of every Ghanaian citizen who is 18years of age or above and of sound mind to vote.

He noted that this year’s elections is the 8th since democratic governance began in Ghana and it is considered as one of the most sensitive elections.

But he assured the public and the people of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency that the police is prepared to protect lives and properties and shall be very cordial to all electorates at the various polling stations.

ASP Degraft Adjei Armah disclosed that there are 117 polling stations in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency with 17 hostpots with Sawla PWD polling station, Sawla Methodist, Jintilpe and Sanyari as major hotspots.

Cautioning residents of these major hotspots he said “I have taken serious notice of what happened during the assembly elections and such will not happen again. Stay off from any form of electoral disturbances and act responsibly because I shall deploy more than an officer to your polling stations to ensure that orderliness prevails”.

He added by advising the general public not to come to the polling station with party colours, unregistered vehicles and, should not come into sections demarcated by the electoral commission and should keep a 100metre distance from the polling station or possibly go home after casting their ballot and return later at 5pm to observe the counting process.

He entreats the media to be accurate in their reportage and should not be in a rush to be the first to publish information without accurate verification and should contact the police and presiding officers at the various polling stations for updates and accurate information.

He also noted that the police shall be in their black or camouflage attire with name tags, IDs and stickers during the election day and no officer posted to the various polling stations shall be with a weapon except officers of the electoral patrol team.

He therefore called on the general public to join hands with the police in ensuring that we have a peaceful, fair and transparent elections devoid of intimidation and electoral violence.
