NORTHCODE -Ghana, on Thursday 14 March 2026 held a stakeholders forum on promoting peace and co-existance in the Bole District of the Savannah region.

Dr. David Sumbo, Board Chairman for NORTHCODE- Ghana speaking to Yagbon News stated that the NGO’s has been working in this part of the country particularly in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba enclave which boarders Cote d’ivoir and Burkina Faso in the areas of peace and how to promote peace in this part of the country by trying to avoid violence extremist crossing over to Burkina Faso and Cote d’ ivoir into Ghana.

Dr. David added that all what they have realized is that all the activities that have been carried out in the community level is one of the major sources of conflicts has been people poor understanding of the laws and policies that are being implemented by the security agencies.

So today basically we are going to create an opportunity for this state security agencies to educate the community members on the laws and policies and once they know them they will minimize the extend of which people go against such laws.

“So today’s session, the police service has present to them in terms of community policing, what are the responsibilities of citizens and also what are police supposed to do to ensure that there is peaceful co-existance between us and that people are aware of their civic responsibilities so far as security is concerned”

The board chairman emphasized that the impact of peace projects are not like other development interventions and so base on their assessment they are seeing results in the two districts.

“We think that if our interventions where not there the situation could have been worst than it is today, the data we have shows that the locations in which we are working, people understanding of issues and the ability to tolerate each other is far better than if we were not operating in the area”.He said

Mr. David again mentioned that NORTHCODE- Ghana is making significant progress and they believe that with the matter of time as they identify each time they implement one thing and they see challenges, and so they develop new interventions to address the challenges that are coming up.

We are trusting that with time we will address the issues as and when they come but we think we are making a significant progress that is leading to contributing to the peace in the area.

Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, Custom Division were all present at the program and also added their voices by educating participants on the importance of peace.
