Tension is mounting in the Bole municipality in the Savannah Region over the nomination of Mr Abdulai Mahamud as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

Arise Bole youth, a youth group in the area are kicking against Mr Abdulai Mahamud appointment by President John Dramani Mahama .

The aggrieved youth explained in a press statement that President John Dramani Mahama should appoint someone who understands the cosmopolitan nature of the area.

The press statement, signed by Saaka Abdul-Fatawu Jaaga, on Friday April 25, Secretary of Arise Bole Youth, alleged the nominee is not a registered voter in the constituency.

The group also noticed that the nominee previous social media activities particularly on Facebook posts have the tendency on instigating tribal division between ethnic groups.

They made reference to his Facebook posts that “incite division between the people of Bamboi (Moo’s) and the Gonja community,” raising serious questions about his impartiality in a municipality known for its ethnic diversity and delicate social balance.

The youth argued that his appointment would reverse gains made in peaceful coexistence, inclusive governance, and local development.

The youth also cited a precedent from President Mahama’s first term, claiming a similar appointment from Bamboi led to disconnection and underdevelopment.

They are calling on the President to “reconsider the nomination” of Mr Abduai Mahamud and consult widely in selecting a candidate more visible and aligned to the aspirations and identity of Bole.
