The Pastor Sonlaar Foundation,an NGO based in Tuna has began the construction of a memorial modern hospital at the Sawla -Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
The hospital, when completed will address a burning need as currently there is no major health facility within the area.
The facility when completed will serve communities such as
Nofiteng,Bayelteng,Lorgbee, Sagbatee among others which currently have to go all the way to Sawla to access a major health facility.
Accessing healthcare in those areas is always a challenge.
The hospital, which would comprise of an Out-Patient Department (OPD), male and female wards, a theater and labor ward, dispensary and laboratory, accident and emergency unit and a mortuary was the brain child of Dr. Joseph Sonlaar, son of the late pastor Sonlaar Moses Tibotey.
Addressing the gathering at Tuna he said the hospital idea has been nursed since 2020 after the demise of his late father and so he is elated that it is finally happening.
He therefore made a passionate appeal to the Government,the District Assembly,the Member of Parliament and other benevolent individuals to support the construction of the hospital in any form.
According to him the estimated amount of the entire project is projected to cost 2 million Ghana Cedis,thus; 20 billion old Ghana Cedis.
At the fifth anniversary of the Sonlaar Foundation to unveiled the hospital in memory of him at Tuna, was very well attended by people from the surrounding communities and stakeholders in health, including the Savannah Regional Minister,Salisu Be-Awuribi, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Andrew Dari Chiwitey, among other dignitaries.
In an address, the Savannah Regional Minister lauded the project and promised to get the President of the country,John Dramani Mahama informed about it.
The Sawla -Tuna-Kalba District Director of Health Services, Madam Gertrude Yentumi was also happy saying a hospital at Buopuonkoraa is a crucially needed facility.
Speaking on behalf of the Local Council of Churches, Rev.Sansah Samson commended the NGO for the initiative and described it as God sent.
Hon.Andrew Dari Chiwitey, the Member of Parliament for the Sawla -Tuna-Kalba Constituency speaking at the event lauded the NGO for the initiative.
He appealed to communities in the area to initiate more self-help projects.
He said the resources of the District Assembly, including the Common Fund, was not sufficient to cater for the needs of the over 300 communities in the District.
Both the MP and the Regional Minister donated Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis each towards the building of the hospital.
