The Kindergarten pupils at Simaliyiri in the Bole District of the Savannah region have indicated that education for them is riskier than being on the farm.

This is because the Simaliyiri D/A Kindergarten cannot boast of safe and well-equipped classroom.

The situation is dire as they are forced to sit on the ground which they are being taught without furniture.

This came to light when a resident of the area lamented about the condition under which pupils were being taught.

Whereas their counterparts in urban areas will be having the best of education and furniture, most of these children have to be writing on their laps, he added.

The resident added that the pupils and teachers are at the mercy of the weather; whether windy, rainy, or sunny, “they all suffer because they have nowhere to go”.

He said more often than not, classes have to be suspended when the weather gets harsh because they cannot risk the lives of the pupils.

He, therefore, pleaded with the government, donors, and philanthropic organizations to come to their aid .

Meanwhile, the building of a KG block that was started in 2019 had since been abandoned.

The residents therefore want government to resume work on the classroom block project which has been abandoned for over four years.

Pupils of the school are forced to study under a tree , while the abandoned classroom project gathers dust and deteriorates further.

According to the school authorities, due to the lack of a classroom structure pupils are asked to go home anytime it is about to rain. This has been a major concern for residents, pupils and staff of the school, as it affects academic work negatively.

While the pupils sit under a tree , a classroom project for the school has been abandoned for over four years which weeds had grown around the area, and the structure had also developed cracks.

The residents , highlighted some of the challenges confronting the school. They wants government to resume work on the abandoned project.

“When it rains, it forces teachers to close school early at times, all because the environment would be muddy,” they lamented.

The residents of the community therefore appeal to the government to get the contractor back on site to complete the abandoned KG classroom block to improve teaching and learning.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4 is quality education and it’s target number one is “Achieving inclusive and quality education for all reaffirms the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development.
